Kevin Durant drops 29 as Oklahoma City Thunder ease past Sacramento Kings 115 – 89 – NBA Recap
The Oklahoma City Thunder made short work of the Sacramento Kings on Friday, handing them a 115 – 89 defeat here at the Chesapeake Energy Arena. The Thunder dominated throughout the game, and didn’t have to break sweat as they garnered another victory, keeping
them close to the San Antonio Spurs at the top of the Western Conference standings.
Super star Kevin Durant led OKC’s charge. The forward had game high 29 points to go along with 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Durant linked up well with point guard Russell Westbrook, who had 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The two combined on a tremendous
Alley-Oop, where Westbrook made a terrific dunk which left both the crowd and the players gasping for more.
"That was one of the most athletic plays I've ever seen. It has to be the dunk of the year. For a 6-foot-3 point guard to be catching lobs like that, that is unreal, man." Durant said after the game.
Derek Fisher came off the bench for 14 points while Kendrick Perkins had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Daequan Cook also had 13 points.
It was a sorry night for the Kings however, who had only one bright light in the form of rookie point guard Isaiah Thomas. Thomas scored team high 21 points and had 3 assists. Marcus Thornton had 12 while DeMarcus Cousins finished with 9 and 12 rebounds.
Thornton opened the game with one from beyond the arc, but the Thunder soon hit back. In fact, the first quarter was extremely close, and neither side was able to sustain momentum. The period ended with OKC on top at 23 – 21.
Oklahoma City raced to a 31 – 25 lead, but the Kings didn’t let them get too far ahead, keeping it close until a 9 – 0 run by the Thunder put them in the clear; 47 – 35. They home team headed into the halftime break in a comfortable position, up by 58 –
39.
Sacramento were unable to turn the tide even after the interval. They toiled but the Thunder were just too strong in all departments. Oklahoma City breezed through the third quarter, their advantage only increasing.
With the final period starting with the home side up by 86 – 63, the writing was on the wall. Both sides just went through the motions, the game ending at 115 – 89.
