Kevin Durant launches a 66 point blitz to light up Rucker Park – NBA Update
On Monday night, Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant stepped onto the Rucker Park, Harlem court and wowed the crowd with an explosive display. Durant played in an Entertainer Basketball Classic game and joined the list
of basketball greats who have visited the famous court to show off some skills. And boy, did he leave an impression.
Past contributors include Wilt Chamberlain - who many regard as a rival to Michael Jordan for the All time Greatest honour (Chamberlain’s stats are better) - Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who is the all-time highest
scorer in the NBA, and Julius Erving. Players still active, who have come to Harlem, include iconic guard Allen Iverson and Lakers super star Kobe Bryant.
Kevin Durant said it was an honour to play here and revealed that he thoroughly enjoyed his time on the court. Durant came to New York as a two-time reigning NBA scoring champion and he did not disappoint on the court. Playing
for DC Power, he plundered 66 points against the Sean Bell All-Stars.
Durant’s display left him just 8 points short of the record at Rucker Park, held by Joe -The Destroyer - Hammond who scored 74 in a game.
After the game, Durant took to the social networking site twitter to make public his feelings: "No lie, jus had one of the best times of my life at Rucker Park..wow! I love NY...Harlem waddup."
DC Power point guard Randy "White Chocolate" Gill lavished praise on the Oklahoma City Thunder star after the game. Randy labelled Durant the best player in the world and said it was a joy to watch him play as Kevin often reduced
his own teammates to mere spectators through his mesmerizing play.
"It's an honour and pleasure playing with the greatest player in the world, Kevin Durant. He's young and hungry and it makes your job real easy playing with a guy like that," Gill said.
"Most of the time, just give him the ball and get out of the way. Go spot up and then when they're doubling, triple-teaming him, you know he's even scoring on that. He's an explosive scorer, a great shooter and the greatest player
in the world."
Durant dominated the game from start to finish and brought the attending crown into frenzy. He was often double or triple teamed by the opposition but the All-Star showed no signs of slowing down as he knocked down shot after shot
to the joy of the cheering crowd.
His barrage from downtown in the face of multiple opponents twice incited the fans to flood the court, once when he scored his 60th point and earlier when he hit four 3-point shots in a row.
