Kevin Durant looking forward to some much needed rest ahead of next NBA season
Kevin Durant has had a wonderful NBA season; one that has by far been the best of his career and one that saw him rise to the top of the NBA, helping him solidify his position as one of the best players in the league at this moment.
Durant led the Oklahoma City Thunder to the NBA Finals, where they lost to the Miami Heat in five games. However, they toppled teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and ended a 20 game winning streak of the San Antonio Spurs, defeating them in the Western Conference Finals.
KD was critical in the success of the team, clinching his third successive scoring title of his NBA career in the process. He was also named the All Star MVP and then he made the trip to London for the Olympic Games where he was one of the most outstanding players in the competition.
Ever since returning from London with the gold medal, Durant has been busy making appearances in shows and programmes. He is also making his acting debut with the feature film “Thunderstruck”, and has been busy promoting it with appearances and promotional work.
But Durant has not lost sight of the ultimate goal, one that he is yet to accomplish. When all is said and done, he is still without an NBA championship, and will begin the 2012-2013 campaign in a few months time.
Durant knows it’s going to be another tough year and is looking to ensure that he is ready for it.
Talking to Marc Stein of ESPN.com, Durant said:
“I think I’m just going to work out, get my cardio back up. If anybody knows me, I probably won’t stop [playing]. But I’m going to have to force myself, too. I know rest is very important, just as important as getting better on the basketball court. I gotta make sure I get my proper rest [to be] ready for the start of training camp.”
The star forward is looking forward to getting some much needed and deserved rest before the next season commences, as he has had a rough year with the lockout shortened NBA season followed straight by the training camp for the Olympics and then the actual competition.
Next season, Durant will be up against a re-energized Los Angeles Lakers team in the Western Conference, who landed Steve Nash and Dwight Howard in the offseason. Durant is ready for the challenge as he hunts for his first championship ring, but knows that the battle will be even tougher.
“It’s different every year. What we did last year is out the door, though. We can’t bring that into the new season. The target is going to be on our back, just like it has been for the last two years,” added Durant.
