Kevin Durant named Western Conference Player of the Week
Oklahoma City Thunder spearhead Kevin Durant has been named the Western Conference player of the week for games played from Jan. 31-Feb. 6, the NBA announced today.
Kevin Durant is the face of the Oklahoma City Thunder. The sharp-shooting forward, who possesses the tenacity of LeBron James, the intensity of Dwyane Wade, the agility of Derrick Rose and charisma of Kobe Bryant has been simply
unstoppable this season.
Durant has had a brilliant start to the 2010-11 season. The dazzling forward has lit up the NBA courts this season with a league high 29 points per game to go along with 7.0 rebounds. He presently leads the Thunder in scoring
and rebounding and is second only to Russell Westbrook in assists per game.
In the week under the scanner, Durant paced the league in scoring, averaging 29.3 points per game. In addition to that he was ninth in the league when it came to cleaning the glass with 11.0 rebounds per game. Durant marshalled
the Thunder to a perfect 3-0 outcome for the week, shooting 29-of-52 from the field, 7-of-15 from the three-point mark and 23-of-26 from the free throw line.
Scoring a double-double every time he set foot on the court, Durant started the week with a 43 point, 10 rebound and five assist blitz against the New Orleans Hornets. The 43 points marked the fifth time this season that Durant
has gone past 40 points in a game; the most in the NBA.
After propelling the Thunder to a 104-93 win over the Hornets, he then took on the Phoenix Suns in a thrilling contest. Although Jeff Green rose to the occasion to help the Thunder, Durant still had 24 points to go along with
11 rebounds and three blocks in a 111-107 win.
Durant then rounded off the week in style as he scored 21 points, 12 rebounds and four assists in a 121-105 win over the Jazz en-route to his fourth consecutive double-double.
Durant won the weekly honour out of a prestigious group of nominees which included Dallas' Tyson Chandler and Dirk Nowitzki, and Utah's Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap.
