Kevin Durant rejects the latest NBA Labour proposal
At the time when most of the NBA players have mixed opinions on whether the union should accept the league’s latest CBA proposal, Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant has made it clear that he will not endorse the latest proposal
by NBA Commissioner David Stern.
The representatives of the players association are scheduled to meet in New York on Monday, November 14, in order to discuss the possibilities of making a settlement. While the two-time reigning NBA scoring champion Kevin Durant
is not sure of whether he will be attending the union’s meeting next week, the small forward was certain that the revised proposal was not in the favour of players.
“I know it’s not a good one. It’s not the one that we want. …If it’s not a good deal, I don’t see why we should take it, especially this late.” Durant said.
According to Durant, it’s not all about securing a fair percentage of the Basketball Related Income (BRI) in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The proposed deal will limit the player’s movement and many other issues like
luxury tax, contract length and mid-level exceptions will highly favour NBA owners. Durant and NBA players seek some leverage on those issues, but the owners have refused to give in so far.
Kevin Durant declared that he will let the Executive Director of the players association Billy Hunter and president Derek Fisher decide whether making a settlement under the proposed plan is feasible or not.
However his vote will be for rejecting the offer.
Talking about the decertification, Kevin Durant was not sure that whether it is the right time to make that move however he said that his agent told him it’s not a good idea.
“I talked to my agent [Aaron Goodwin] about it. I heard it’s not a good idea to do that. But I got to look into it a little bit more. I have optimism, but of course everyone else around me is nervous. Hopefully, something comes
up. But as of right now it’s slow. Hopefully, things will pick up. We will see what happens. I wish we could go out there and play, but it’s much more difficult than that.” Durant said.
Whatever the case may be, Durant has already planned his future activities if the labour agreement is not resolved. According to reports, the ace forward is now seriously considering a move abroad and has a lucrative offer already
from a German club.
