Kevin Durant speaks in favour of the ‘one and done’ rule – NBA Update
Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder is a man not known for talking much. The three time scoring champion in his recent interview at the ‘Mike and Mike’ and contemplated on how the matchups are going to be played out with the playoffs currently going on in full flow.
During the show, when asked about the one and done rule for College Basketball considering the fact the many college athletes have opted to be drafted this year, Durant said that he was a big fan of the rule and regarded it as the first step in young player’s education to becoming great athletes.
Durant attended college in Texas and after just one year opted to be drafted and was selected 2nd overall by the Seattle Super Sonics back in 2007. He discusses the rule very openly and stated very clearly that it is great step in the building process and if the players opt to stay in college for more than year, they will certainly have more time to develop their games.
“I like it how it is now, Guys get that year to really learn themselves and grow up in college. Most guys even go two or three years. Lately it’s been more guys that go one and done. I think they’ve done well in the league. Coming in a grown man’s game at 18, of course you’re going to have your struggles, but guys like John Wall, myself, Mike Conley, Michael Beasley, Derrick Rose, O.J. Mayo, guys like that, they’ve grown, they’ve gotten better. You see a lot of one and done All-Stars in this league, MVPs. It’s a matter of how hard you work when you get here and the steps you’re willing to take to be a good player.”
KD, who only played one year at college, considers his time at college as a significant part of his career and regards it as the time which helped him improve greatly as a players and look where it has gotten him.
The level of college basketball is very high in the United States and we have seen many greats emerge after playing one year in college and with the current batch of new recruits lined up who are making the most of the “one and done” rule, Anthony Davis leading the way, things are looking bright for basketball.
