Kevin Durant stars as Oklahoma City Thunder beat Brooklyn Nets 117-111: NBA Recap
Kevin Durant posted 32 points and dished out 6 assists as Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Brooklyn Nets 117-111, snapping Nets’ 6 game winning streak at home. Thunder improved to 15-4 after the win, the second best record in NBA
so far this season.
Russell Westbrook also paced the Thunder with 25 points and 9 assists, Serge Ibaka collected 18 points, going 8 of 12 from the floor, while Thabo Sefolosha finished off with 14 points. Thunder made good use of the free throws as
they shot 30 of 34 from the line.
Deron Williams scored the night high 33 points and dished out 7 assists, Andray Blatche had a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds while Kris Humphries also posted a double-double with 12 points and same number of rebounds.
Durant made his intentions clear to the Nets at the start of the game when he nailed a three pointer after just 13 seconds. Sefolosha made two back to back three pointers to put Thunder up 9-5 as they scored their first nine points
from distance. Three pointers were in fashion in the first period as Williams also knocked down two from behind the arc to put the Nets up by 21-19. It was pretty close between both teams as the lead kept switching hands, and Oklahoma City were leading by
just 31-28 at the end of the period.
This trend continued for a while in the second period and the score was tied on 38 early after a Mirza Teletovic jumper. The Thunder started pulling ahead as Durant scored five to go up 43-38. OKC followed with a 9-0 run capped
off by a Westbrook shot from downtown to push the advantage to 54-42. Thunder kept pulling ahead and were leading by 61-48 at halftime.
A Serge Ibaka free throw had them up 70-57 early in the third period and after a Kendrick Perkins layup the lead ballooned to 73-57, their biggest of the game. However the Nets were not to be silenced that easily, especially at
home. Gerald Wallace started heating up and sank two from the three point land to reduce the deficit to 75-81. He fired two more near the end of the period to make it a two point game at 86-88.
Thunder started the final period strongly; and were up 98-89 in no time. The Nets were in striking distance and gave Thunder a scare as they made it a two point game on 102-104 with 4:12 left on the regulation. But KD was there,
and he scored six straight points for the Thunder to put them up by 110-106. The Nets tried as hard as they could but went down 111-117 in the end.
