Kevin Durant talks about Oklahoma City Thunder team practice, says more will follow – NBA Update
NBA super star Kevin Durant (KD) recently took time out to talk about the team practice sessions, the Oklahoma City Thunder players held in Austin. Durant said it was a great experience working out with his teammates and revealed
that plans were afoot for more such ventures.
In an interview to News OK, Durant talked about the routines the team went through during the Austin team sessions and how the experience helped them all.
“It was great. Texas did a great job of hosting us on campus.” Said the two time NBA scoring champion.
He went on, “But we were just working out. We would go at 8 in the morning and lift, then we would go upstairs and work out on the court. Then we would take about a three-hour break, grab some food and come back and hoop; play
pick-up, stuff that we would normally do around this time in the preseason, but it would just be in Oklahoma City. It was really good.”
The NBA locked out its players on July 1st due to a labour dispute that is still unresolved. During the NBA lockout, players are barred from being trained by their franchise coaches, as well as from using team facilities
for practice.
In these circumstances, many different players have been working out on their own, and some, like Durant and his teammates, have gathered to train together.
Kevin credited centre Royal Ivey and Nick Collison for arranging the session in Texas. He also revealed that the team planned to meet again on the 3rd of October, the date on which the actual NBA training camps were
supposed to begin. These were cancelled last Friday by NBA after another unfruitful round of negotiations with the players union over the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
“Yeah, we got another one coming up on the third (of October). We're going to go to Lexington. Nazr (Mohammed) set everything up.” The OKC star said.
Durant and his team are a rising force in NBA and the team spirit they have shown during the NBA lockout can only be a good thing for the franchise. The Oklahoma City Thunder surpassed all expectations last season, when they reached
the Western Conference Finals, with KD spearheading the charge.
The young team fell to a veteran Dallas Mavericks side in that series, with Mavs talisman Dirk Nowitzki in stunning form. Still, OKC took plenty of positives from their performance and are looking to build on it come next season.
