Kevin Durant thinks that a NBA Finals repeat between Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder will be ‘s**y’
Tuesday night’s game between Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder marked the first rematch of last season’s NBA Finals and the game turned out to be a classic.
With so much at stake, both Heat and Thunder gave it everything and had it not been for few early game OKC turnovers and a controversial non call on Russell Westbrook, we could have seen extra minutes. Nevertheless, Miami managed
to win, and continued their dominance over the best team from the Western Conference.
That win is however just a sign of things to come.
While many people thought that the revamped Los Angeles Lakers will dethrone Oklahoma City from the tag of the best team out West, their early season struggles have ensured that even the talk of a championship run by them receives
its due scrutiny. That leaves the San Antonio Spurs as the only team which can realistically challenge OKC. The biggest problem for the Spurs though will be to match the OKC athleticism throughout the series. They had their best chance last season, but what
happened after two games in the Western Conference Finals is an open secret now.
So, barring a major surprise, Thunder are set to return to the NBA Finals this season, and Kevin Durant, who will be at the centre of whatever result OKC will be producing in the next five to six months, believes that the matchup
with Eastern Conference giants Miami Heat will be s**y;
“Our teams mirror each other, but you really can’t say right now,” Durant said. “There’s so many good teams, you never know what could happen. Of course, that’s a sexier matchup as far as LeBron and me, and Russell and D-Wade,
Serge [Ibaka] and Chris Bosh, of course that’s the matchup everybody wants to see. You never know.”
Although New York Knicks started the season with a bang and Boston Celtics are formidable despite their record, Miami is still the team to beat not only in the Eastern Conference, but in the entire league. Their access to the NBA
Finals this season is a done thing, and should they come up against Oklahoma City again, the resulting series can be one for the ages.
