Kevin Garnett decides to return with Boston Celtics – NBA Update
Legendary power forward Kevin Garnett has reportedly decided to return with the Boston Celtics next season. Garnett, whose contract ended this summer, was reportedly considering retirement after over a decade and a half in the NBA.
The forward who began his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves is a sure fire future Hall of Famer and has achieved all there is to achieve in the game of basketball. He has won the NBA World Championship with the Boston Celtics and the Most Valuable Player
trophy while in Minnesota. With his years slowing him down and a contract coming to an end, there were strong indications that Kevin might call it a day.
In the end though Boston were successful in convincing the forward to comeback as they believed, after Garnett’s terrific performances in the post season, that he could still be the corner stone of the franchise. Now the Boston Herald has claimed that Garnett
has given his consent.
“The decision came down to whether KG wanted to keep playing," said one source. "And once he decided that he did, it was going to be Boston. He wasn’t going to leave Doc (Rivers) and those guys and play anywhere else."
"Kevin was absolutely great this season, and he just wants to keep going," said a source. "And when you look at how he was playing, there’s no reason for him to stop."
Celtics head coach Doc Rivers reportedly played a huge role in convincing the star to postpone his retirement, as people close to Garnett suggested there was never a chance of the player joining any other team via the free agency.
The contract Garnett is set to sign is reportedly worth around $34 million and is for three years. Garnett’s signature would mean that at least three members of the Celtics core of 4 important players would remain in Boston next season.
Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo are the other two players set to feature for the Celtics again next season while Ray Allen is a free agent expected not to come back. Boston have already started looking forward to a relatively new look team with the likes of
Avery Bradley taking more responsibility and Jeff Green set for a more central role.
In addition, the Celtics brought in two good young players via the 2012 NBA Draft.
