Kevin Garnett fires a salvo at ‘former’ teammate Ray Allen – NBA Update
Ray Allen’s decision to take his talents to the South Beach was perhaps the most astonishing move of the action filled off season. Member of the original Big Three of the Boston Celtics, Allen, the best three point shooter of all
time, chose Miami over Boston, even though his former team was offering a fatter contract.
Allen however was unhappy, so much so, that he decided to head to Boston’s arch rivals, even though close friend Kevin Garnett lobbied aggressively against the move. KG stayed quite after the whole situation, but on Friday at
the Celtics' media day at their training centre, the seven foot centre finally vented his frustration;
"I don’t have Ray’s number anymore," Garnett said at. "I’m not trying to communicate. I'm just being honest with everybody in here... It’s just what it is.”
The media delegation present on the occasion immediately pressed KG to open up about the reason behind the move, but Garnett refused to go into the details;
"I choose not to. I choose -- that’s a choice I personally made. I told you all, I’m very close to Ray. I know his family. I wish nothing but the best for him and his family. I'm just making a choice on my own. That’s all. When
a guy makes a decision based on him and his family, you can’t ever get upset at that," said Garnett. "My personal feeling, I won’t put into it. The only thing I’ll say is I wish Ray the best. That’s where it’s at."
It is quite evident that Garnett is not happy at Allen leaving Boston, and then going to the Heat of all teams.
Miami have been Boston’s nemesis for the past two seasons and the rivalry between the two teams has been boiling by the day.
C’s head coach Doc Rivers called out his team a few weeks back and urged them to hate Miami Heat. Jason Terry, one of the major Celtics recruits during the summer, took it a step further recently when he said that he wanted to
kill the Heat.
The latest remarks by the Garnett seem to be an attempt to further raise the ante in the war of words.
