Kevin Garnett happy with Jared Sullinger as rookie aims at backing veteran up next season – NBA News
The Boston Celtics are looking a way better team than the previous season, even though veteran shooting guard and three point specialist has left the team for the Miami Heat. The Celtics have Jeff Green back from heart procedure,
are expecting Avery Bradley to return soon from his shoulder surgery, and added Jason Terry and Courtney Lee to the roster during the offseason to give them one of the deepest teams in recent years. With the kind of talent and depth that the Celtics are boasting
this season, they have a good chance of going one up on the Miami Heat.
As the Celtics backcourt continues to grab the attention of people around the league, it is the front court and particularly Jared Sullinger who is making a name for himself among the teammates. And for Sullinger, no player’s opinion
can hold more value than Kevin Garnett, the Celtics front court veteran. Garnett has been impressed by what he has seen of Sullinger so far, and is looking forward to sharing the front court with him next season.
“I feel like sometimes young guys come in and have the whole entitlement displayed across their chest. This kid is coming in, working his [butt] off, and he’s trying to be better. I’m giving him the book, teaching him everything
I know,” said Garnett about Sullinger.
Sullinger said that he was happy he was getting to learn from one of the best forwards in the game, and his fearless style of basketball is what he believes is the reason for hitting it off so well with the leader of the Celtics
team.
“[I understood] that I can’t be afraid because he’s Kevin Garnett. He’s my teammate and I’ve got to attack him every day in practice. That’s what I did and earned his respect like that. Most people would say, ‘Oh my god, Kevin
Garnett’s guarding me. Get it out of my hands.’ No, not me,” said Sullinger while talking to CSNNE.com.
Sullinger will be vital to the Celtics aims for the next season, as he will be filling in for Garnett while Doc Rivers tries to keep Garnett well rested during the season and ready when the playoffs start. Stepping into Garnett’s
shoes will be a huge task for the rookie, but he has started off well by earning the respect of the man whom he is backing up.
