Kevin Garnett offers an explanation for not shaking Ray Allen’s hand – Whatever!!!
When the Miami Heat took on the Boston Celtics in the season opener few nights ago, the world saw LeBron James return swiftly to his element, Dwyane Wade was his explosive self again, Rajon Rondo was brilliant as usual, but the thing which made the biggest headline was the start of Ray Allen’s tenure with Miami Heat, or did it?
It did not, because Kevin Garnett decided to hog the limelight with his arrogance.
Allen ended a five year affiliation with the Boston Celtics this summer, opting for a slimmer contract with the Heat rather than extending his stay in Beantown. The disgust was plenty from the C’s and that was understandable, given that Miami have become nemesis for the Greens ever since the Big Three of James, Wade and Chris Bosh assembled at the South Beach two years ago.
One of the men who called out Allen for making a switch was Kevin Garnett, but on Tuesday night, he took the matter to a whole new of level – of might I say disgrace.
As soon as Coach Erik Spoelstra decided to introduce Allen in the game, the veteran shooter went over to the Boston side to shake hands with the coaches. He tried to do the same with KG, but he never responded, looking other way all the while.
And guess what KG had an explanation for it as well.
“You know what man, I was just trying to stay as neutral as I could but obviously I’m an intense person. Other than it was blank, I just saw the Heat uniforms and obviously he’s on the other side and I just tried to play the game, man.”
While we can argue all about how passionate Garnett is towards the game, it doesn’t change the fact that his action was disgraceful. Sure, Allen sort of ditched him and the C’s, but what was it actually that forced him to leave? Perhaps, KG should have spoken out when he saw Allen being treated as a pawn compared to a certain ‘punk’ Rondo; he should have spoken when he saw Avery Bradley being preferred to Allen at the starting spot, and he should have supported his ‘teammate’ in the time of his struggles.
Apparently he did not and left Allen all alone, feeling unwanted. Now that the best three point shooter of all time is with a team that spanks KG’s team day in and day out, he is acting like a sore loser.
