Kevin Garnett responds to Atlanta Hawks owner Michael Gearon Jr. – NBA Update
After leading his team to victory over the Atlanta Hawks and closing the series, veteran centre Kevin Garnett had some stuff he wanted to get off his chest and he did just that in the post game press conference.
Garnett had 28 points and 14 rebounds in Thursday’s win over the Atlanta Hawks that gave the Celtics a 4-2 series victory and saw them through to the next round. After the big game, Garnett addressed the comment made by Hawks owner Michael Gearon Jr. a few days ago in a press conference.
"First off, I want to say thank you to the (Hawks) owner for giving me some extra gas tonight. My only advice to him is next time he opens his mouth, actually know what he's talking about -- X's and O's versus check books and bottom lines." Said Garnett
Speaking at an event in Atlanta on Wednesday, Gearon Jr Gearon had called Garnett as the ‘Dirtiest Player’ in the league;
"We don't get any calls, which I know everybody always hears. But I'll give you a stat. Last night, we are playing this old physical team. They are old. I know what happens when you play basketball: Old guys foul. Garnett is the dirtiest guy in the league. We are playing Boston (Tuesday) night and they had two fouls the whole first half. We had five times that and we're athletic."
Garnett took serious objection to being called dirty and said that he and his team have always played clean basketball and always respected the opponents and the club for which they are playing. He was also particularly mad about the fact that he was being labelled as old and made it a point to clarify the fact that he had worked hard to be at this level and play at this level and did not like people calling him old in their articles and columns.
Referring to Gearon Jr, Garnett went as far as to say that just because one has money does not mean they can open their mouth about someone.
Garnett and the Celtics now look ahead to their upcoming series against Philadelphia that starts on Saturday in Boston.
