Kevin Harvick pleased with AAA 400 result at Dover International Speedway – NASCAR news
Kevin Harvick was pleased with how everything turned out in the AAA 400 at the Dover International Speedway.
Harvick finished 10th in the race but got enough points to draw level with Carl Edwards and take the overall lead based on NASCAR’s tie break system.
Harvick said that he was happy with the result he got and the team did well to finish in the top 10. He was also surprise that their two-tyre strategy did not work as well as he expected and the car had become quite loose in the later stages of the race.
Speaking about the weather, Harvick said that while it was nice to drive in a cooler weather, he would have preferred to have driven on a hotter day as he felt that his car was performing better in warmer temperatures.
Harvick admitted that the competition for the Chase in 2011 had stiffened and it was very hard for one person to dominate and just take off into the lead. Harvick also pointed out that the points system had made the situation more interesting as bad races
could have more impact but a couple of good finishes can put one right back in the mix.
Harvick also said that he expected Kurt Busch, Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards to perform well at Dover since they have such a good record at the track. He admits that he does not have a very good record at the track and just wanted to get in there and put
in a strong finish.
Speaking about his chances at the next race in Kansas, Harvick said that while he has not won a race there, he is concentrating more on strong finishes. He said that he has some good performances there in recent races and was looking forward to going back
to the track and extending his lead in the Chase.
“If you're looking for wins; you know, right now we are looking for a championship so whatever we have got to do to fight through that is what we'll do. Obviously you need to run good at all of them. You can run bad at any of them to tell you the truth but
Kansas has been a place where we have been pretty solid,” Harvick said.
