Kevin Harvick takes second consecutive victory at Goody’s Fast Relief 500 Sprint Cup race – NASCAR
Kevin Harvick won his second consecutive race of the Sprint Cup Series 2011 season, Goody’s Fast Relief 500 at the Martinsville Speedway.
He won the last race held at Fontana as well.
Harvick played his trick to pass Earnhardt Jr. with just three laps on the countdown of the 500-lap race. Earnhardt was second to finish the race after Harvick, but mounted his winless count to 99 races.
This victory has ranked in his second of the season but first at the Martinsville Speedway. Now he has 16 victories in the Sprint Cup Series.
Earnhardt was leading the race after 480 laps down, when he passed Kyle Busch and maintained it, but until Harvick snatched it from Earnhardt in turn 2. Kyle Busch finished at third place in the race.
Juan Montoya was fourth to finish ahead of Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth and pole winner Jamie McMurray. David Ragan was eighth and Clint Bowyer was ninth to finish. Mark Martin finished his 800th Sprint Cup race at 10th place,
closing the top-ten ranks.
Harvick was very excited to win the race. Harvick put a stop to Denny Hamlin’s three consecutive race wins at the Martinsville Speedway. Harvick is now in the count with Denny Hamlin and Jimmie Johnson to win at the 0.526-mile track of Martinsville
Speedway after Tony Stewart on April 2, 2006.
“I could see people going crazy in Turn 2 when he took the lead from Kyle, and I was catching him, and I'm like, 'Man, I'm going to be the bad guy here, But I've got to do what I've got to do,” Harvick said.
Harvick also felt that it is a good experience to race with Earnhardt especially. The fans want to see Earnhardt win as well as Harvick too but it is the passion for victory which ignites the competition. It is the race and the victory is precious
so Harvick refused to back down.
Earnhardt played well, made a pit stop for a two-tyre change in lap 205 on the go, and got out of pits in second place. Under the 10th caution, Earnhardt was called again in the pits, this time for four-tyre change and a refuelling. On the
exit, he was still at the second place even though the top eight cars were not in for pit stops.
