Kevin J Doherty acquires Men’s 1500m freestyle gold – 2012 Marriott USMS Summer Nationals
Kevin J Doherty of CMS acquired gold medal of the Men’s 1500m freestyle in the age group of 35-39 year old on initial day of the 2012 Marriott USMS Summer Nationals at the CenturyLink Center Omaha on Thursday, July 5.
Doherty stifled hopes of his challengers as he accomplished gold medal of the event. He continued his nerve-wrecking pace throughout the race and tapped the finishing wall with the timing of 18 minutes and 19.90 seconds.
He was followed by George Bookwalter of DOC, who stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by clocking a time of 18 minutes and 30.50 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Greg D Moyle of IAMA, who remained almost half a minute apart and completed his swim in a time of 19 minutes and 03.06 seconds.
The 36-year-old Moyle was chased by Doug Jelen of PNA, who stayed 3.16 seconds slower and tapped the finishing end with the timing of 19 minutes and 06.19 seconds for fourth position.
Jelen was chased by Matt D Miller of OREG, who finished his swim in fifth finest place with an effort of 19 minutes and 44.13 seconds.
Following that, Ramses Rodriguez of SYSM dominated the similar event in Men’s 40-44 years old age category. The 40-year-old Rodriguez impressed the aquatic crowd by capturing gold medal of the event with the timing of 18 minutes and 22.63 seconds.
His title-claiming effort remained 34.35 seconds faster from Benson B Meridith of NEBR, who occupied silver medal of the event with an effort of 18 minutes and 56.98 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Dan Borton of Rose, who proved his eligibility for bronze medal of the discipline by producing a time of 20 minutes and 20.06 seconds.
Fourth position of the event was secured by Omar Awad of MINN, who stayed 14.57 seconds behind and hit the finishing blockade with an effort of 20 minutes and 34.63 seconds.
The arena admired marvellous swims of Doherty and Rodriguez in the 1500m discipline while the winners expressed happiness over their accomplishments at the medal distribution ceremony of the championship.
