Kevin Johnson collides with inexperienced Noureddine Meddoune at Prizefighter tourney – Boxing News
Kevin Johnson, the current IBF Australasian heavyweight champion, will take on the rising young Moroccan lad Noureddine Meddoune in a three-round heavyweight quarterfinal bout of the Prizefighter tourney, which will be held on June 20, 2012.
The duo will meet at the pay-per-view organised and promoted by Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing. The special edition will be televised live on Sky TV and is basically a tournament which will have four quarterfinal bouts in order to decide the two semi finalists
of the ongoing Prizefighter tournament.
As far as the odds are concerned, undoubtedly they are in favour of Johnson, the one and only man who gave a serious tough time to Vitali Klitschko. In fact, he just an inch close from dethroning Vitali Klitschko off his WBC heavyweight reign.
Kevin recently shared his thoughts about the competition and commented that he will win all the upcoming bouts via knockout. Johnson, 32, has been in a total of 28 bouts and boasts a flawless resume.
The World Boxing Organisation’s 16th ranked heavyweight pugilist has nailed 12 of his opponents by knockout and has lost just one bout in his career to Vitali. Also known as ‘The Kingpin’, Kevin recently collected an impressive ninth-round technical knockout
win over Alex Leapai and engraved his name on the IBF Australasian heavyweight gold.
His opponent, Meddoune, 28, hails from Morocco and will enter his career’s fifth bout. Noureddine has collected four wins but unfortunately lost his professional career’s debut bout. Since that loss, the young lad has been on a win streak in fact Meddoune
grabbed a high-profile win over heavily experienced Hastings Rasani.
While sharing his thoughts about the upcoming Wednesday night competition, Kevin stated, “There’s no pressure on me as the favorite, it just makes me look extra good – I should be the favorite because I’m the best here. I believe I will turn that into a
victory on the night and that I will knock out all three of my opponents on the way – and after that, I’m coming back to beat everyone, all the big names. No matter what I’m definitely going to be heavyweight champion of the World and this will solidify that
shot and I’ll get it quicker than a lot of other people who deserve it less.”
As far as the stats and technicalities are concerned, Meddoune will not be able to give Kevin a tough time as he not only has the experience advantage but also has the home ground benefit and better win and knockout ratios than the upcoming Noureddine.
