Kevin Kolb to make third straight start
Kevin Kolb will make his third straight start this Sunday, as Michael Vick continues to recover from damage to his rib cartilage. Kolb has been the Philadelphia Eagles’ starting quarterback since Vick
went down with his injury in an 3 October loss to Washington.
Vick had earned the starting job after Kolb suffered a concussion in Week 1. Vick did brilliantly in relief of Kolb and coach Andy Reid named Vick his starter. Vick went 2-0 in his two starts, before the
Washington game.
Kolb has a big test this Sunday against the Tennessee Titans’ ferocious pass rush. The Titans lead the league in sacks with 24 through six games. The Titans’ secondary is still inconsistent though, as
they’re a pedestrian 23rd in the league in pass defence. The key for Kolb will be to get rid of the ball quickly.
Kolb is coming off a great week, as he picked apart the Atlanta Falcons defence. He was the NFC offensive player of the week throwing for 326 yards and three touchdowns. He’s looked good in his starts
since Vick’s injury and that’s created more of a quarterback controversy.
Vick suited up last week as the third string quarterback and Reid has said that Vick will be the Eagles’ starter when he’s healthy. After this week, the Eagles have a bye week, which means Vick should
return in Week nine. Reid said Vick would suit up as the backup this Sunday, as he’s getting more reps in practice.
"We'll give him a little bit more than we did last week," Reid said. "We kind of fed him a few plays on the scout team. We'll give him a little bit more and see how he feels."
Kolb is taking everything one game at a time, as he continues the friendly competition with Vick over the starting job.
"I will continue to prepare like a starter," said Kolb. “That way, I'm ready when my name's called. Whatever [Reid] decides, he decides."
