Kevin Kouzmanoff shines as Colorado Rockies beat Los Angeles Dodgers 7-6 – MLB Update
Colorado Rockies’ decision to acquire Kevin Kouzmanoff started showing positive results a week after they gained a six-year-veteran player. Kouzmanoff added four RBIs to help the pitchers write a 7-6 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the rubber outing
at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 28 to take three-game series 2-1.
Kouzmanoff made his first hit for a three-run RBI drive in the first inning. The right-hand batter drove in beautifully to right-field, allowing Troy Tulowitzki, Seth Smith and Ty Wigginton scored their runs.
"It definitely feels good to contribute, and I want to do that any way I can," said Kouzmanoff. "It's all about producing and doing my part to help the team win. Fortunately I had guys on base today, and the double got us off to a head start. This is a great
opportunity for me and I'm excited about it. We've got a great group of guys here."
Kouzmanoff spent last and most of this year with Oakland Athletics before joining the Rockies on August 23 in an exchange of a player to be name later or cash considerations. Kouzmanoff is among the players who have launched a home-run on their first Major
League Baseball at-bat.
Ty Tulowitzki and Eliezer Alfonzo also scored an RBI singles in the first inning to provide Rockies 5-0 early lead. Kouzmanoff scored his fourth RBI in the fifth inning after Seth Smith had opened the inning with his RBI double to deep field.
Dodgers displayed strong resistance to save their 70th loss of the season but dropped a little earlier. Justin Sellers drove in an RBI single in the bottom of the first to reduce the lead 5-1. Then James Loney cut it to 5-2 with a double to deep-left-field,
scoring Justin Sellers.
In the sixth, Eugenio Velez grounded into fielders’ choice to short-stop, Rod Barajas scored, Trent Oeltjen stole third base and Jamey Carroll got out at the second. Tony Gwynn did not try to make a hard hit instead flied into the air, allowing Oeltjen to
score a run to reduce the lead to 7-4. Dodgers came closer in the seventh inning, when Aaron Miles earned an RBI single. Oeltjen followed with his hit to right-centre allowing Aaron Miles to score the sixth run.
The game was 7-6 at the end of the seventh and Dodgers were having fair chance to make it through. However, Rex Brothers tossed a crushing eighth inning and Rafael Betancourt closed the game with his no-hitter.
The Rockies are two games ahead of the Dodgers this season. Rockies have won 64 while Dodgers are chasing with 62 to their name. Both teams have to show extra aggression in the coming game, if they have to make through post season.
