Kevin Love creates NBA history as he posts first 30-30 in 28 years
Some things are only seen to be believed and Kevin Love produced one of those performances as he etched his name in the pages of history pulling off 31 points and 31 rebounds to produce NBA’s first 30-30 game in 28 years.
With Love at only 6 points early in the second half he whispered past Michael Beasley:
"I'm going for 30 tonight”
Beasley perplexed at the comment inquired, “Thirty what"?
Love was talking about the rebounds at that time but little did the duo know that Love will go on to create history on court as he became the first player since Moses Malone in 1982 to achieve the prestigious feat.
Timberwolves coach, Kurt Rambis, was short on words as he tried to come to terms with what had happened before his eyes.
"Obviously Kevin had an incredible game, those numbers are just stupid numbers", Kurt Rambis reacted. "I don’t even know what to say. I don’t know if I've ever seen those kind of numbers before. I've been in the league for thirty years and I don’t think
I've seen those kind of numbers".
Minnesota entered the second half with a deficit of 19 points, but a tenacious Love brought them right back into the game. He scored 11 points and had a mind boggling 15 rebounds in twelve minutes of play to put the Timberwolves right back on track.
He continued to turn the heat on the New York Knicks as the 6 ft 10 center scored 14 more points and 7 boards to single handedly guide the Timberwolves to a second consecutive victory.
Love, in a post match interview, was nearly speechless at his effort:
"It seemed like no matter what anybody did I was going to go and get those rebounds. I don't know what to tell you", Love said sheepishly. "I impressed myself. I don't even know what to say to be honest with you".
Michael Beasley whose 35 points and 6 rebounds literally went unnoticed amid the Love mayhem was all praise for his teammate
"Thirty years from now I can say I was on the floor while history was being made", he said. "It's great. And we got the win. Just an amazing thing to watch and be a part of".
