Kevin Love enjoyed watching Miami Heat lose in the NBA Finals – NBA Special
Kevin Love has confessed that he was among the majority of NBA fans, who were pretty pleased with the Miami Heat’s loss in the NBA Finals.
Love has been pretty vocal in the last few days since coming to New York, where he is scheduled to take part in a beach volley ball tournament. The post prodigy has spoken on a number of topics which included Minnesota Timberwolves search for a new head coach as well as the NBA lockout.
However, his most recent sound bite is bound to come into sharp focus around the league for its candid openness.
NBA players usually refrain from taking sides during a matchup between their colleagues; however Love had no qualms in admitting that he was rooting for the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals.
The Miami Heat have become perhaps the most vilified team in recent memory after their acquisition of LeBron James. James angered the whole of Ohio, when he decided to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers as a free agent and move to the Miami Heat.
Soon after the whole league stood up to take notice as LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, the new Big Three, were presented to Heat fans in an onstage celebration. The whole NBA world did not condone the behaviour of the Miami superstars, with many considering their celebrations as disrespectful to the rest of the NBA because the season had yet to start.
To make matters worse, James claimed on stage that he was going to win multiple NBA World Championships in Miami. Add all that to their arrogant demeanour, and the most talented trio assembled in at least the last decade, became the most hated as well.
The Heat, however battled through the adversity and simply overpowered their opponents on the way to the NBA Finals. Waiting for them though, were the veteran yet underdog Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks had genuinely established superstars like Dirk Nowitzki, Shawn Marion and Jason Kidd, but all on their last legs.
Mavs feel good factor and underdog status turned the NBA world in their favour when the finals began, and since they ultimately won, the gloating at Miami’s expense has not stopped.
Now Kevin Love has revealed that it wasn’t just the NBA fans that wanted the Heat to lose,
“Oh yeah, great amount of joy out of it. Plus, for me, they say nice guys, good guys finish last. But Dallas, they just had a slew of great guys and veterans on their team that made for just a great team. It wasn’t just two, three, four guys on the team, like Miami I kind of felt it was. Around the league, it was kind of a consensus that guys were happy.”
Kevin has certainly ruffled a few feathers, and these feathers belong to the three of the best players in the league. The fact cannot be forgotten, that the Heat are already the odds on favourite to lift the title next year. So when the triple ripple from the South Beach visit Love’s den next season, they will not be in a cordial mode, and Kevin better watch out.
