Kevin Love opens up about his Minnesota Timberwolves future; Things don’t look good – NBA Report
When the Minnesota Timberwolves offered a deal to Kevin Love last season, they did not dole out the five year - $ 80 million sheet which the player deserved, but insisted on a four year – $ 62 million one. Love eventually took
it - the lure of a first major contract after the rookie contract perhaps bowled him over - but the man who has emerged as the most menacing low post scorer and rebounder, not to mention a three point champion, in the last few years is not happy with Wolves.
In fact, he is downright frustrated.
In a detailed discussion with Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Love let go of all his inhibitions and spoke freely about the Wolves’ front office, especially the dealings of owner Glen Taylor and general manager David Kahn,
the duo which out rightly refused to recognize Love as a player worth of a maximum contract .
"I don't know who labels people stars, but even [T'wolves owner] Glen Taylor said: I don't think Kevin Love is a star, because he hasn't led us to the playoffs," Love told Yahoo! Sports. "I mean, it's not like I had much support
out there.
"That's a tough pill to swallow."
Kevin has been a stat-filler all throughout his career so far, and has only got better with time. For the last four years, he has been the only positive which could be drawn out of the team, which sees players chopped and new ones
included nearly every season. All through that, Love has continued to give in his best.
"You walk into the locker room every year, and it's completely turned over," Love says. "There's new guys everywhere. And then it happens again and again. You start to wonder: Is there really a plan here? Is there really any kind
of a … plan?"
It however remains a cold hard fact that the Wolves, even if Rubio returns, are still a playoff contending team, not a championship worthy one. Kahn and company have had a lot of high draft picks in the last few years, but one
after another, they blew all the chances and Love is struggling to keep this side on the playoff map.
For him, championship is what defines a NBA player and if Kahn doesn’t succeed in putting up a decent team around him very soon, Love will be on his way out. In fact, he might do it, even if Kahn manages to build a team, and nobody
would blame him for that.
If you still don’t get how frustrated Love is with the Wolves, just check out his detailed interview with Wojnarowski.
There is no doubt in my mind that Love is another Kevin Garnett in the making. The only difference is that Love has realized his fate at T’Wolves much earlier than Garnett ever did.
