Kevin Love pounds 30 points as Minnesota Timberwolves down hapless Charlotte Bobcats 102-90: NBA Recap
The way Charlotte Bobcats are playing this season, it is safe to say that a college basketball team can also beat them. They have been extremely poor in all the departments and have only won three games so far.
On Wednesday night, they continued their dismal run and lost to Minnesota Timberwolves 102-90, to extend their losing streak to 16 games.
The Bobcats put up a good show in the first half and in fact were ahead by 2 points 46-48 by the end of the half. Their fight continued midway through the third frame as well as the scores were tied at 62 all with almost 4 minutes
remaining, but then the inevitable happened.
The poor side of Bobcats returned, allowing Timberwolves to finish the 3rd frame with a game changing 14-4 spurt, which put the Timberwolves in a commanding position at 76-66.
But the worst was yet to come in the deciding quarter.
Minnesota pushed the momentum further and rattled a 13-4 spurt in the opening minutes of the frame to turn the game completely in their favour by making it 89-70. Bobcats had no answers to the onslaught and their pathetic defence
and gave up the cause just few minutes later, allowing Timberwolves to complete a gifted victory.
Kevin Love starred for the Timberwolves. He finished with a game high 30 points on 11 for 21 from the floor and 18 boards.
"We knew if we were able to go on one of our runs, they weren't going to be able to fight back and get a win against us," Love said. "We were happy to get this one. We surely needed it."
Nikola Pekovic too had a double-double with 21 points and 11 boards. Jose Barea was equally impressive and almost missed a double-double, finishing with 12 points and 8 assists.
"We had four losses in a row," said Pekovic "This was our game. We needed to win this game and we won."
Timberwolves were accurate with their shooting and netted 50.6% from the floor.
Rookie Kemba Walker led the Bobcats with 21 points whereas Corey Maggette tallied 18 points on 5 for 6 from the charity stripe. Boris Diaw sealed 14 points, 9 boards and 7 assists.
Bobcats coach was naturally disappointed with the outcome of the game. According to him, it was Pekovic that actually killed them and not Love.
"I thought we did OK against Kevin because he shot a lot of outside shots," Bobcats coach Paul Silas said. "But the other kid. Pep-a-vich his name is? Whatever, he just killed us down there."
