Kevin Love puts on a show as Minnesota Timberwolves hold Golden State Warriors 97-93: NBA Recap
On the night when the Golden State Warriors retired the number 17 jersey of one of their greatest ever, Chris Mullins, the team failed to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Warriors had a horror start to the game, with the first scoring shot coming 5:05 minutes into the game. They struggled to match wits with the T’Wolves and trailed by as many as 17 late in the second quarter, before finally exploding
in the third to not only tie the game but also take the lead.
Their advantage was however short-lived as Kevin Love dropped five points in a row to give the Wolves a 71-67 lead going into the last 12 minutes.
The fourth quarter was a tight affair early with both teams scoring in short burst to maintain parity. However, with the scores tied at 83 nearly midway, Minnesota dealt the decisive blow with a 15-5 burst to ice the game. The
game ended at 97-93.
Love was huge for the Wolves. The power forward muscled his way to a game-high 36 points and 17 boards to help his side nip a three game skid. Point guard Luke Ridnour chipped in with 11 points and 10 assists; rookie Derrick Williams
hauled down 11 rebounds, swatted three blocks to go with 6 points while Anthony Tolliver posted 10 points off the bench.
With Stephen Curry missing his fifth consecutive game, David Lee led the Warriors with 25 points and 9 boards. Richard Jefferson provided 19 points on relief; Klay Thompson had 17 while Nate Robinson had 13 points and 7 dimes.
The Warriors were 6-of-21 from the floor in the first quarter, which ended at 21-14. They then missed six consecutive shots to start the second, allowing the Wolves a nine point unanswered run to make it 30-14. The shots did start
falling for the hosts after that, but the Wolves kept up the ante and finished the first half at 49-35.
Golden State finally finished the night on 42.9 percent shooting, but the first half slump ultimately proved to be a bit too much to overcome. They were also out-rebounded 48-33 on the glass and failed to take advantage of the
16 Wolves turnovers.
