Kevin Love sets milestone with 52 consecutive double-doubles surpassing Moses Malone – NBA update
Kevin Love had one of the biggest nights of his life on 9th March as the 22-year-old Minnesota Timberwolves’ forward center scored 16 points and grabbed 21 rebounds in his team’s big win over the Indiana Pacers. The UCLA graduate broke his own
milestone just two days after tying Moses Malone’s 51 consecutive double-doubles. Love has made himself part of league history by doing something that no other player has been able to do for 32 years since Malone set the record in the 1978-79 season.
All things aside, the player sealed the record despite being injured with a bruised left knee. He had fallen on the floor and bruised his knee in his team’s matchup against the Dallas Mavericks on 7th March, the same day he recorded his 51st
double-double. The player went for an MRI, and the results came back negative but he still had some difficulties moving. The same injury kept the player away from the gym floor in Tuesday’s practice.
Though he was uncertain about his appearance in the game, Love overcame the injury and stepped in to play the game. He grabbed his first rebound in the opening minutes of the game after Deron Granger of Indiana missed a jumper. His second rebound came after
the same player missed another shot. The player scooped up six boards in the very first quarter. Love grabbed his tenth rebound in the second quarter and right after that pulled a missed free throw to seal the record. The audience at the Target Center was
on its feet as Love sighed with relief on having made it through.
Love’s 52nd double-double proved to be very lucky for the Wolves, as they snapped their four game losing streak and sealed a big win over the Pacers. The player also sealed a franchise record by grabbing his 309th offensive rebound
of this season in the same game.
Love rested the rest of the fourth quarter on the bench, as the knee was bothering him and watched his team score baskets one after the other en route to their victory. Anthony Randolph clinched 12 points in the final quarter and played vital role in giving
the Wolves their big win.
Love is now the owner of 52 consecutive double-doubles and his next record is to surpass Elvin Hayes. Hayes scored his 55th consecutive double-double in 1973-74.
