Kevin Love spends a night in hospital after suffering a concussion - NBA Update
An inadvertent elbow sent Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star forward Kevin Love to the hospital on Wednesday night. He suffered a mild concussion and a strain to the neck early in the 1st quarter against Denver Nuggets
when JaVale McGee landed an elbow into the side of Love’s head during an attempted shot.
He was eventually helped out of the game by medical personnel’s.
J.J. Barea, the reserve point guard, who had a career night with 15 assists, pictured the incident.
"It was pretty bad, but hopefully he'll be all right," said guard J.J. Barea "As soon as he got hit, I knew he was out. He was talking, but he wasn't all there, though."
Wolves are currently on the 12th spot in the Western conference with 25 wins and 35 loses and their chances for the playoffs are over. They have already lost their key player to injuries this season, the most damaging
among them being the one to Spanish rookie Ricky Rubio. Luke Ridnour was sidelined due to sprained right ankle recently and Wayne Ellington is dealing with a back spasm.
Love, NBA top scorer since All-Star break with an average of 26.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game, holds a cardinal position in team. His early departure left the Wolves severely handicapped. Derrick Williams, who collected 27
points in the loss to the Nuggets and will now be holding the power forward position for the remainder of the season, was disturbed at Love’s unfortunate exit;
"Kevin is our go-to guy. He’s the heart of our team."
Over the years, Love has become the face of the twin cities franchise. He had been the lone shining light at Minneapolis for the last two years, and after the arrival of Rubio this season, he was finally starting to look as a finished
product.
However, after Rubio fell, he was left as the only go-to guy and boy did he try. Love has literally carried the franchise on his back and would have been a favourite for the MVP, if only his team had someone else to pick up the
slack.
Kevin is a complete player who can rebound the ball, shoot from the 3 point range and create h**l in the paint. He is now expected to miss the rest of the games in the season and his absence will further weaken Rick Adelman’s Wolves.
