Kevin Love tallies his 50th double-double of the season
It is starting to get a little bit ridiculous. With his 12 points and 11 rebounds performance on Monday night as Kevin Love extended his red-hot double-double streak of the current season to 50.
Although Kevin set a record in the basketball world but it was not enough to save his team Minnesota Timberwolves from a 95-81 defeat to the visiting Portland Trail Blazers at Target Center.
The Blazers fought hard to stop Kevin, as they would not like to be his target to highlight his career with NBA record.
Love stated, "I did feel like they were coming at me.” "A lot of the time they were hitting rebounds out when they saw I could get a hand on it. But it was not an advantage or disadvantage."
Before the All Star break, the last time anybody garnered that feat was back in 1950 when the late George Mikan turned it on. Mikan had exactly 50 before the break in 1950.
For those who do not know much, Mikan was an American professional basketball player. Mikan was so dominant that he caused several rule changes in the NBA, among them widening the foul lane—known as the "Mikan Rule.” As Mikan is known as one of the pioneers
of professional basketball, he was nicknamed as “Mr. Basketball.”
Beside his breath-taking NBA record, this was also Love's 41st consecutive double-double of the current season. Kevin is the only player to have a longer streak of consecutive double doubles since the NBA-ABA merger is Moses Malone, who had a 44-game streak
during the 1982/83 season. Malone was on top with 50 straight in the 1978/79 season.
Kevin is averaging 21.3 points and 15.5 rebounds this season. He apparently wants to be the one who steps up and takes more of a leadership role for the Wolves.
Love said, "You have to bring it every day, do all the right things in practice and everywhere else, so guys will follow you. If you want to tell someone they're wrong, you'd better be sure you're doing most, if not everything, the way it should be done."
The Pac-10 Conference Player of the Year, Love has already accomplished various mind-blowing feats this season. Take his 30-point and 30-rebound game against the New York Knicks this season. On the other hand, his rebound rate during this season is 23.3
percent, which is equal to Dennis Rodman’s career rebounding rate (the highest in league history).
The 22-years-old Minnesota centre Love is one of the top rebounders in the NBA. However, what is frightening for other best rebounders of the league is that Kevin Love seems to only be improving day-by-day. His rebounding rate has risen in each of his first
three seasons, and for a player of Love’s calibre, it seems perfectly reasonable to expect this trend to continue.
