Kevin Love to miss 6 to 8 weeks of action with fractured shooting hand – NBA News
The Minnesota Timberwolves were looking set to having a memorable upcoming NBA season and possibly make the playoffs for the first time since 2004. The Wolves added some good quality veterans to the team in the offseason to strengthen
it, and were looking to be led by their breakout talent Kevin Love, who earned MVP mentions in a spectacular year last season. Love was also part of the U.S team that won gold medal at the London Olympics in August, and was looking forward to leading the Wolves
to a playoff spot next season. However, the Wolves offseason efforts as well as their ambitions for the next season were all dealt a big blow when Love fractured his shooting hand during a team work out on Wednesday morning, which will force him to miss 6
to 8 weeks of action.
With the Wolves opening their regular season on 2nd November, the injury to Love comes as a set back to the team, as he will now be missing at least the first month of basketball action. The Wolves were already suffering
from the loss of Ricky Rubio, who tore his ACL back in March and was expected to return sometime in December. The loss of Love leaves the team without its two core players.
Wolves owner Glen Taylor tried to remain positive and hopeful about Love’s early return while talking with reporters during halftime of the WNBA Finals
"I think all of our fans anticipated this season with great enthusiasm. We knew we were going to have to wait for Ricky, and now we have two guys to wait for. But again, I'm going to be positive about it and say we've got some
young guys and let's see them step up,” said Taylor.
The injury to love will mean that Derrick Williams and Dante Cunningham will share minutes at the power forward position, and try to keep the Wolves front court as competitive as can be in Love’s absence. Although the team does
have other options as the Wolves roster is boasting a lot more depth than it did last season, still there is no one who can completely cover the loss of Love, who averaged 26 points and 13.3 rebounds last season and led the league in power forwards.
