Kevin Love tries his luck against Beach Volleyball Pros, Loses in Straight Sets – NBA News
Last week, it was Chase Budinger of the Houston Rockets, who made news by announcing that he will be trying his luck with the volleyball pros in the scheduled summer tournaments. This week the headlines belonged to Minnesota Timberwolves
power forward, Kevin Love, who tried to attempt a similar feat. However, he failed miserably.
With nothing to do during the lockout, the rising star took the beach for his first ever pro beach volleyball tournament. Although Love and his partner, Stan Holfus, lost in straight sets, Kevin termed the action as ‘addicting’
and stated that he plans to continue to improve his volleyball skills.
The duo of Love and Holfus were a bit unlucky as they managed to draw the top seed of Sean Scott and John Hyden, who not only won last week’s Hermosa Beach tournament but in fact have been undefeated throughout the summer.
Reportedly the number one seed pair went easy on Love and his partner and handed them a defeat of 21-16, 21-15. Kevin stated that although he did not enjoy losing, the feeling of playing against the best volleyball pair in the
country was rather special.
“Obviously getting beat is never fun, but being competitive, playing against the best team in the country, a team that hasn’t lost all summer, was a lot of fun,” Love said.
Love also went on to say that it is all about having a good court sense like that in Basketball and believed that he could improve if he spent more time playing the game. “It’s like having a good basketball sense, you got to have
a good court sense out there and for me, I haven’t spent enough time out there on the volleyball court to really know,” said Love.
Stoflus, who was making a comeback from a long injury, was in tune with Kevin as they both aimed at enjoying themselves on the beach. “We both said, ‘Let’s have as much fun as possible,’” Stoflus said. “If we went in too serious
we’d put too much pressure on.”
Sean Scott was at hand to praise Kevin love for his athleticism as well as his ability to utilize his 6 ft 10 inch frame. Scott also insisted that Kevin had a long way to go before he could become a better player and emphasized
that he needed to develop more ball control.
Not only did Love enjoy the experience, it was extremely healthy for the reputation of beach volleyball. The recent participation by Budinger and Love will go a long way in promoting the game.
Kevin was one of the brightest stars in the NBA last season where he averaged 20.2 points and 15.2 rebounds; per game. He also set a new record by achieving a double-double in 53 consecutive games last year.
