Kevin Love’s 28 go to waste as Memphis Grizzlies beat Minnesota Timberwolves 93 – 86 – NBA Recap
The Memphis Grizzlies picked up an important win at the FedExForum on Tuesday when they defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 93 – 86. The visitors were in the game until the end but couldn’t measure up in the final quarter, allowing the Grizzlies to claim
the victory.
Minnesota star Kevin Love was once again in the zone tonight. He had game high 28 points along with 11 rebounds for a double-double. Love though ended up on the losing team, a sight all too familiar this NBA season and something that is a major stumbling
block in his bid for the MVP award.
Kevin however isn’t focused on that and just wants his side to make the playoffs.
"If we were winning a lot of these games, maybe so. I just want to make the playoffs to be honest with you. If we win, everything will take care of itself. For me, I just want to keep my nose to the grind like everyone else and continue to get better as
not only an individual, but also as a team."
Derrick Williams and Wayne Ellington, 14 and 15 points respectively, were the only other players to get into double figures for Minnesota, who are struggling to secure a playoff berth.
The Grizzlies themselves have fallen on some tough times recently after looking ominously strong early on. They now look like they have rediscovered winning ways.
"We just went out there with a chip on our shoulder. We haven't been playing Grizzlies' basketball lately. We knew Marc (Gasol) was out so we had to step up tonight and come through. We did that tonight." Said Marreese Speights.
He had 18 points and 7 rebounds and Dante Cunningham secured a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds in a rare start. Star forward Rudy g*y scored team high 21 points while Mike Conley had 12 points and 8 assists.
The first half was a closely fought affair. Both teams showed good energy and hustle, the scores therefore weren’t that high. The first quarter finished at 24 – 22 to the Grizzlies, who weren’t really able to build on it in the second segment, going into
the halftime break with their noses ahead at 44 – 41.
The pace picked up slightly after the interval as the Timberwolves stepped up their efforts to get ahead. An 11 – 2 run by Minnesota, that included 2 strikes from downtown by Love, put them up 63 – 55 near the halfway mark. The Grizzlies however refused
to go away, and a 6 – 0 spurt to end the third quarter put them up again, 68 – 67.
Memphis proved too much for the Timberwolves in the final 12 minutes. An 8 – 0 sprint put them in the clear, 86 – 75, and afterwards they had little trouble in closing out the game at 93 – 86.
