Kevin Love’s 40-19 night sees Minnesota Timberwolves edge out Charlotte Bobcats 88-83: NBA Recap
The Charlotte Bobcats hosted the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night at the Time Warner Cable Arena, Charlotte, in a game which turned out to be a highlight reel for Kevin Love. The All Star power forward had another all
around great performance managing 40 points and 19 boards for the game.
It was a closely contested contest with both teams looking to get the W for their respective organizations. Timberwolves were without their star guard Ricky Rubio who has been plagued with injury.
During the first quarter both teams fought very hard for the lead. At the end of the 1st period, Timberwolves behind Kevin Love`s 11 points only had a 3 point lead (24-21).
In the second quarter both teams were at it again. With the lead going back and forth, Charlotte finally manage to get a hold, outscoring the Timberwolves 26-21 to get a 2 point lead at the half way stage.
The third quarter was no different from the first two quarters. Both teams were giving it all. Kevin love had 26 points where as Gerald Henderson had 15 points from the Bobcat`s side. Wolves had a 3 point lead going into the fourth.
The Bobcat`s had the momentum going into the fourth but it was not to be as Kevin Love started the f quarter by dropping two long range bombs on Charlotte, thus extending the lead to 9 points. But Charlotte was not going out that
easy. They again started to get their offense going. Behind Corey Maggette`s 22 points, Charlotte were on the verge of coming back into game.
However Kevin Love`s 40 point night turned out to be enough in the end as the Timberwolves managed to hold off the Charlotte Bobcat`s by three points coming out of the Time Warner Cable Arena with an important win.
The key to winning during this game was the second chance points the Timberwolves had as compared to the Bobcats. Wolves managed to get 13 offensive boards and converted them to 23 second chance points. Whereas Charlotte only managed
6 offensive board and converting only half of them to manage only 6 second chance points. The more astonishing number was the great advantage the Timberwolves held over the under sized Bobcats in the rebound department, out hustling them 50-38.
These rebounding numbers helped the Minnesota Timberwolves get an important win on the road.
"This was a big win for us tonight especially after last night. We came out tonight and played a tough Charlotte squad. They hung tight for three quarters and we took care of things in the fourth. It was definitely an important
one for us." – Kevin Love.
Luke Ridnour also had a good night for the Timberwolves going 6 for 13 for his hard fought 15 points. Kemba Walker from the Bobcat`s side also had a good night managing 20 points .
The Timberwolves play Boston next on Friday.
