Kevin Mitchell: Ricky Burns is strong and possesses quality defence – Boxing News
Kevin Mitchell, the former WBO Inter-Continental lightweight champion, praised his upcoming opponent Ricky Burns, the current WBO lightweight champion. According to him, Burns has a good chin, he is strong, he falls and gets up again and above all he possesses
a good defence.
This time Mitchell will collide with one of his best friend Ricky in a 12-round title bout. The duo will meet at Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom and will test their abilities to prove as to who is the best lightweight
in Britain.
The above bout will headline the pay-per-view organised and promoted by Frank Warren of Frank Warren promotions and will be televised live on September 22, 2012. Ricky and Kevin recently took part in a press conference where they unveiled their upcoming
engagement.
Kevin while sharing his view point commented that he and Ricky are good friends and outside the ring they go together pretty well, adding that things will change now as their jobs are on the line.
Also known as ‘Mighty’, the Essex hailing knockout pounder also shared bits of the tough time he faced after his humiliating loss to Michael Katsidis. It must be reminded that Kevin took on Michael in a 12-round bout with the interim WBO lightweight title
up for grabs.
Things did not go well for Mitchell and he got technically knocked out by the less experienced Michael in just the third round. When asked as to what he feels about his opponent Ricky, the knockout pounder stated, “He’s strong, sharp and he hits hard enough
to hurt you. He’s got a good chin. He goes down, he gets back up. He is strong in all areas, he’s got a great defence. Where people go wrong with him is that they don't realise how good he really is. They come unstuck in the middle rounds.”
Kevin will enter the ring with a powerful advantage in his gear. The orthodox 27-year-old has collected a huge 24 of his 33 wins by knocking the opponent out cold. On the other hand, Ricky is not a powerful brawler and tends to absorb intensive punishment.
The bout will have Ricky’s WBO lightweight title on the line and this is the perfect opportunity for Kevin to once again rise at the occasion and feel the limelight of being on the top.
