Kevin Na enters the field of Valero Texas Open with Chainsaw in his hand – Golf News
The United States’ Kevin Na entered the field of the Valero Texas Open on Monday, holding a chainsaw in his hand to cut off a small tree that troubled him last year while playing the par-four ninth hole.
Na suffered one of the biggest disasters in the history of the PGA Tour history as he carded 16 on the ninth hole at the Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio, last year.
It was the highest score recorded by any player on a par-four hole on the PGA Tour. However, no one would like to have such a record associated with their name.
At the time of signing his scorecard, he thought that he made 15 shots to finish the hole. However, he preferred to watch his video and found that he used 16 shots to finish off the hole.
At the end of the round, he managed to offset a part of the 16 he made and finished at eight-over 80. This year, he entered the field with an aim to commemorate the incident that happened last year.
Last year, Na was really frustrated after playing a weird tee shot. Not only that, his shot was followed by a stroke that hit him after bouncing back from a tree.
That cost him a two-shot penalty. Thereafter, he made five shots from the woods to get out of the trees.
He said that he plans to perform some humorous and entertaining activities on the course that will remind the people about the number he scored, which even amateurs do not witness in their careers.
"I'm hosting Inside the PGA TOUR. This week so we were trying to come up with some creative and fun ideas to commemorate my performance on 9 last year and this seemed like a fun way to go back,” he said. "It was a lot of fun, that chainsaw had a pretty good
kick to it".
Na is currently enjoying a great form, as he has registered four top-10 finishes in the 11 events he has played on the 2012 PGA Tour, so far.
He is also ranked 19th in the FedEx Cup Rankings because of his consistent performances on the Tour.
