Kevin Na falters in the final round of the Players Championship – Golf News
Kevin Na faltered in the final round of the Players Championship to slip to a lower position on the leaderboard.
Na was standing at the seventh position after shooting an eight-under par tournament score on Sunday, May 13, 2012.
Na started the final round with a one-stroke margin over Matt Kuchar and made a confident start at the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course, as he carded a birdie on the very second hole that he played.
The real drama started on the fifth hole when he recorded the first bogey of his round. Thereafter, he suffered bogeys on the sixth, eighth and ninth holes.
On the back nine of the course, he again tried to make a comeback and recorded a birdie on the 11th hole.
However, it did not work for him and the fans witnessed him make another two bogeys on the 12th and 13th holes.
“You know, I got off to a good start and just a couple mistakes here and there, and the wheels started kind of falling off a little bit,” Na said.
He also told that the real mess was created when he started to chase the winner, Matt Kucher, who took lead midway in the round.
Therefore, it put pressure on him and he went on losing the control over his own game.
“When I got behind a little bit, I think I played aggressive and trying to catch up to Matt, which made it worse,” he said.
In addition to that, he also appreciated Kuchar’s final-round performance and said that he was happy for him.
“Well, it was a big disappointment, but I'm happy for Matt,” he said. “He played very well today, played solid all day”.
Despite an unimpressive show of game on the final day, he wants to bring some positive change to his game in the last one week that may help him in the rest of the season.
“It's a disappointing day, but overall it was a positive week. I'm going to take the positive from this week and try to go win another golf tournament later,” he said.
Kuchar carded a two-under par 70 to take the two-stroke victory over four players; Martin Laird, Rickie Fowler, Zach Johnson and Ben Curtis.
