Kevin Na improves preshot routine after continuous efforts
Kevin Na, who was put on a shot clock on Friday at the Crowne Plaza Invitational, has said that he is happy with the improvements he made in his preshot routine at the Colonial Country Club.
Na admitted that he had serious issues with his preshot routine during the Players Championship earlier. However, he has now succeeded to cut the time in half with continuous practice and help by his team.
"I feel like I needed to do it, and I agree with everybody else," Na said, who took more than five hours to finish the final round at the Players Championship. "And believe me, it wasn't like I was trying to play slow on purpose. Sometimes I just couldn't
help it”.
After making changes to the routine, he recorded a bogey-free four-under par 66 in the final round at Colonial to tie for the 13th position on Sunday, May 27, 2012.
It was also the second best score of the day that helped him improve his position by 39 spots on the leaderboard.
"I'm very pleased with the progress," Na said. "I just want to keep moving forward towards this direction that I'm going. I'm playing well, my shots are adjusting to this routine".
According to Na, he used to think too much about his swing and the club to use. Moreover, he always remained curious about the shape of the club head while making his swing.
He told that the major reason for his improvement in the tournament was that he did not think much about the psychological factors, rather he focused more on decreasing preshot-routine time.
"I have no swing thought. My swing thought is to hit it fast," He said. "When I pull the club out of the bag, I used to just stand over the ball and try to feel comfortable".
Golf commentators and PGA Tour officials along with the players have praised Na’s commitment and efforts to speed up his game on the course.
In the meantime, Zach Johnson replaced Jason Dufner on top of the leaderboard in the final round, to take the Crowne Plaza Invitational title for the second time in his career.
