Kevin Na makes strong return in the Players Championship - Golf News
Kevin Na carded a five-under par 67 in the opening round of the Players Championship at the TPC Sawgrass to share the fourth spot with Ben Crane on Thursday, May 10, 2012.
Na had not been having a great time in the last two weeks as he had to withdraw from the Valero Texas Open New, following his opening round score of a seven-under par 79.
Thereafter, he missed the cut in the last week’s Wells Fargo Championship, as he managed to record 73 and 76 in the opening two rounds where the cut was made on one-under par.
While looking at his recent performances, it was an impressive start in the event that is also considered as the fifth major event of the year.
He carded a total of nine birdies against two bogeys and a double bogey that came on the par-four first hole.
The highlight of his performance includes six birdies that came on the back nine of the course. On the other hand, he once again had to face the difficulty of finding the ball in the trees.
His tee shot on the first hole went into trees and it was lost. Kevin, along with the search team, tried to find the ball, but failed. Therefore, he settled for a double bogey in the end.
Despite the bad shot on the first hole, Na believes that he had a great round on the opening day of the tournament and he wants to continue with it in the days to come.
“I played awesome today, made a lot of putts,” he said. “The only thing was on No. 1, my ball got caught up in a tree, and we all know it stayed up in the tree, but unless you can identify the ball, it's a lost ball. So unfortunately I took -- I made double
there. But besides that, I was very pleased with my round”.
“You know, the course is an awesome golf course. If I'm driving the ball well, this is a place where I feel like I have a chance. I played well in '09 finishing third, and every year I come here I look forward to it,” he added.
He is currently two strokes behind the leader, Ian Poulter and Martin Laird, who both carded a seven-under par 65 each.
