Kevin Na trying to tackle slow play on the course
After making the headlines during the Players Championship two weeks ago for slow play in the final two rounds, Kevin Na is now firm to make some improvements through a new pre-shot routine that, according to him, is likely to help him speed up his game.
Na was grouped with Matt Kuchar in the final two rounds at the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course and took more than five hours to finish off his rounds each day.
As a result, Kuchar had to wait for Na to make the shot each time stretching his game too in the end.
According to the golf commentators, Na was facing some mental block while playing the shots during the Players Championship.
As a result, his swing technique was completely immobilised and sometimes he used to take 40 to 50 seconds to make the shot.
The similar incident happened during the Masters Tournament and he openly admitted that he was facing some problems while getting up the speed on the course.
"There's no point in trying to cover anything up. You could see I was having problems," Na said.
That was a time when the slow-play issue again raised its head and people started talking about finding a way to tackle the issue.
The PGA Tour officials have not yet come out with some solution; however, Na has started to practice in order to avoid such situations in future.
Right after the Players Championship, he took a week off and spent some time at the America’s playground for tweaking his playing speed.
He has also admitted that the practice had nothing to do with the improvements in the game rather than speed. Therefore, he is a little worried too, as it may harm his game on the course.
"My closest friends and my caddie are worried about me changing too much too quickly," Na said. "They are afraid that if I change my routine too much, it will affect how I play. I'm a little worried about that myself. I don't know what this will do for my
game, but hopefully it won't be an issue".
He is currently scheduled to play the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial in Fort Worth from May 24 to 27, 2012.
