Kevin O'Brien eagerly awaits IPL5 auction - Cricket News Update
The belligerent Irish batsman, Kevin O’Brien, is anxiously awaiting the player auction for the upcoming fifth edition of the lucrative Indian Premier League, starting in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 on April 4, 2012.
The auction is scheduled to take place in the Southern Indian city of Bangalore on Saturday, February 4, and the Irish all-rounder is hoping to get some good news.
"It's an exciting time, waiting for Saturday," said O'Brien while speaking to media reporters on Wednesday.
It is the same city where the 27-year-old right-handed batsman had struck the fastest World Cup century during http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in March last year. With a magnificent display of clean hitting, O’Brien reached his century in just 50 deliveries. His whirlwind knock of 113 runs was laced with thirteen boundaries and six maximums as the underdogs prevailed in the group match by three wickets with seven balls to spare.
O’Brien said that the city reminds him of the magnificent knock and hopes the memory of the stunning hundred would also be fresh in the minds of the bidders.
"It's still close to the front of my mind. Hopefully, with the auction being in Bangalore, it will help other people remember it too," he said.
O’Brien, who was not registered in the auction for the fourth edition of the money spinning league last year, has a base price of US$ 50,000. The hard-hitting top order batsman and a handy medium pacer insisted that he had improved a lot since his world cup heroics.
"My five months with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gloucestershire-c785 were tremendously important,” said the 27-year-old Dublin born all-rounder. “I think I am a better cricketer now and I'm physically much fitter now than I was,” he added further.
He also praised the Indian Premier League for providing international players a platform to showcase their prowess.
"The IPL is a great tournament. For six weeks, you get to play with and against the best players in the world,” said O’Brien.
He said that representing his country here is very special for him and hoped to do well, if given a chance by the bidders.
