Kevin O’Brien anticipates repeating World Cup performance against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 – Cricket News Update
The attacking batsman of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751, Kevin O’Brien, is determined to repeat his World Cup performance when the Irish face the Poms today, August 25, 2011.
Ireland gave an excellent peformance in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup 2011, when they beat the strong outfit of England by three wickets, due to a powerful century by O’Brien.
The pool match was played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Banglore, on March 2, 2011, where England scored 327 runs and Ireland chased the target by scoring 329 runs with five balls to spare.
Ireland performed reasonably well in the World Cup by winning two matches out of six and had a couple of close encounters as well.
They have displayed positive cricket in the recent past and have emerged as a challenging unit against any team of the globe. He said,
"We are a team who are full of confidence and we know we can beat anyone in the world on our day. There is a belief in this team that if we get ahead we can stay ahead and beat the big teams."
Ireland is anticipating achieving the same result they got at Bangalore in the coming match against the same opponents with better team work.
"Hopefully the team can do something similar, if not even better. That would be the ultimate, if we can play as well as we did in Bangalore and get another victory,” revealed O'Brien.
The 27-year-old still has the sweet memories of the dazzling innings in the world cup against England which took him to the moon.
Ireland had nearly lost the game and was reeling at 111 runs for the loss of five wickets while chasing 327 runs.
He butchered England’s bowling in all corners of the park by thrashing 113 runs off just 63 balls, hammering 6 huge sixes and 13 fours.
That was an unbelievable innings and he became the fastest century maker in World Cup history.
He looks forward to repeat his performance against England which is a difficult task but not impossible.
He commented, "You can always hope to play like that again. I don't know if I ever will again but it would be nice if I could do half as good a job tomorrow as I did in Bangalore.”
The only ODI will be played at Dublin, on August 25, 2011, and Irish will enter in the match with their heads high.
