Kevin O’Connor reportedly taking executive position with the Utah Jazz – NBA News
The Utah Jazz have decided to extend a promotion to current General Manager Kevin O’Connor.
Connor is being considered for an executive position with the Jazz, after having formed a good relationship with the owners of the franchise.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports has reported that Connor will soon take an executive position with the Jazz, and is currently on the hunt for a new General Manager to take his position.
“Utah general manager Kevin O’Connor is moving into top executive position with Jazz and running search to hire a GM, sources tell Y! Sports,” reported Wojnarowski.
Utah are believed to have spoken to Oklahoma City Thunder’s Troy Weaver and Cleveland Cavaliers assistant General Manager David Griffin in this regard. However, both of them are now said to be out of the running for the position, and Dennis Lindsey of the San Antonio Spurs seems to have become the front runner for the job.
The Jazz had a mediocre summer with no big signing and trades. The new General Manager will have a lot of work to do as Utah attempts to become a playoff team once again this season. They currently have in the line-up, young players such as Derrick Favors and Gordon Hayward who can become the next stars for the team if invested in properly. Both of those players have Al Harrington to guide them through.
Millsap is also key ingredient to the future plans of the Jazz, but is set to become a free agent next summer. Whoever takes the position of the new General Manager will set his priority to re-signing Millsap next summer, and will need to do a great deal of homework to ensure that the money is available to sign Millsap.
Whatever happens next season, one thing is for sure that the Jazz will not be going for big signings and super trades to improve the franchise. They believe in the Spurs model of team building, recently perfected by the Oklahoma City Thunder.
