Kevin Penner wins the 2012 Nevada Open at Mesquite Gaming
Kevin Penner stunned his opponents at the 2012 Nevada Open, to take the title home, after adding a 65 to his scorecard in the final round.
The Nevada Open was being staged at the Mesquite Gaming’s two golf courses, including the CasaBlanca Golf Club and the Palms Golf Club.
The tournament featured a number of top-notch professional and amateur golfers from all over the United States and Canada.
According to the tournament policy, the cut mark was decided after two rounds, and the championship round was played among the players who made the cut.
The final round was staged at the CasaBlanca Golf Club, where a huge crowd appeared to support the participants on the course.
Penner, who is an amateur golfer and a part of the Men’s Golf Team at the University of Nevada, remained consistent throughout the week.
He marked a stunning start to his campaign by carding a 63 in his first round and added another 63 to his scorecard on day two.
The final round witnessed him maintain consistency in his game, and he carded another decent score, to take the title home.
Christian Adderson, Corporate Sales Manager for Mesquite Gaming, expressed his pleasure in staging such a successful tournament.
“From start to outstanding finish, the 2012 Nevada Open, once again, fulfilled the promise to be the most thrilling golf tournament on Nevada,” said Adderson.
Talking to the reporters after the tournament, Adderson said that he was surprised to see Penner coming out of the field as the victor.
“What a championship round it was: a thrilling fight to the finish,” Adderson said about the final round. “When all the contenders’ results were verified, a distinctive and surprising winner was announced”.
As Penner decided to keep his amateur status, he was not able to accept the winner’s cheque. However, he was awarded with a $750 gift certificate.
“The 2012 Nevada Open Low professional first place accolades and congratulations go to professional golfers Dusty Fielding of Washington, Utah, and John Hahn of Kent, Ohio, who tied, both with a combined 3-day total of 196.” Adderson said. “These talented athletes each received $10,500 for their outstanding play”.
