Kevin Penny is Swinton's third recruit - Rugby League Updates
Warrington Wolves’ winger, Kevin Penny, is the third recruit for Switon prior to the 2012 Co-operative Championship season. His uptake was confirmed by franchise officials on Thursday, November 17.
Prior to this latest signing, St Helens centre Tom Armstrong and former Widnes and Hull KR prop David Mills have also joined the club.
The 24-year-old failed to make it in his hometown franchise and then went ahead to join the Widnes on loan. He also played for Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in their latest rugby league season after being part of the Harlequins’ side.
While expressing his thoughts about the latest uptake at Swinton, their chairman, John Kidd, stated, "We have agreed terms with Kevin, who is another quality player as we prepare for life in the Championship."
Swinton is all set to clash against the Barrow Raiders on Sunday, January 22, for which Swinton is on the look-out for quality players who can bolster their side’s performance.
This uptake has been very crucial for Swins because the Wildcats recently released the 24-year-old almost a week ago and Swinton made a bee-line to grab the opportunity.
The winger had just appeared in six games for the Merrie City last season after making his move from the Wildcats. New head coach of Wildcats, Richard Agar, decided to forgo Penny and along with other players last week, which brings him here.
Agar is on the road to advance ahead with Wakefield Wildcats squad with the arrivals of two newly-signed players in training next week. Wildcats do not wish to miss out on any opportunity of bringing in the best of rugby league talent, as they want to make
the most of the unexpected opportunity of gaining the Super League license until 2014. This chance became possible with the withdrawal of financially-strained franchise, Crusaders, from the licensing process of Super League games.
In hopes of grabbing the best possible players, Wildcats have agreed to a three-year-deal with the duo of Isaac John and Steve Southern, who will both reach Merrie City on Saturday and Monday respectively.
They are scheduled to meet up with their Wildcats playing partners in training next week.
