Kevin Pietersen: Australia is still vulnerable
English batsman, Kevin Pietersen has said that Australia is still quite vulnerable despite winning the Perth Test by a convincing margin. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 made a good comeback in the Ashes series when they defeated England by 267 runs at Perth. It was a do-or-die
situation for the Aussies and a loss would have ended their hopes of taking the Ashes back from England. After the Perth Test, the momentum has definitely shifted to Australia and their players are looking quite confident about winning the Melbourne Test.
But Australia still cannot afford to lose the Melbourne Test as a loss would end their hopes of regaining the Ashes.
In the Perth Test, a lot of harsh words were exchanged among the players from both the sides, and they did not leave any situation in which they could humiliate the opposition players by their remarks. In the Perth Test, Matt Prior and Peter Siddle were
involved in a heated exchange and a point came where Prior wanted to settle their differences outside the ground.
Kevin Pietersen was of the view that Australia’s habit of sledging suggests that they are under a lot of pressure and because of this pressure they are indulging in verbal arguments. Pietersen further said that when a team is under a lot of pressure they
talk more and indulge in heated arguments. It has been observed in the past that when sides are finding it difficult to get a hold on the opposition they do indulge in these practices to show their dominance over the opposition.
Australia is one team which has mastered the art of sledging and has always made the opposition players uncomfortable with their verbal comments. In the previous Ashes series they followed the same pattern and were quite successful in leaving a psychological
impact on the opposition players. Kevin Pietersen further said that England team is a balanced side and they let their game speak for itself.
Kevin Pietersen further said that England took the criticism of losing the Perth Test in a positive manner. Pietersen said that there are still a lot of areas in the Australian team which are weak and vulnerable. He also suggested that England must forget
about the Perth loss and should focus on the future. He was of the view that England must remember their good performance in Adelaide and Brisbane Test and should take encouragement from these Test matches.
