Kevin Pietersen all set to return to competitive cricket – Cricket News
England’s injured all-rounder, Kevin Pietersen, is all set to resume his cricket career after recovering from a hernia operation, last month. According to reports, Pietersen will play for Surrey in county cricket to return to form.
Surrey cricket manager, Chris Adams, while talking on the matter said, “He's back to playing and within himself, he's ready to play. He's had a good break and he's keen to get going, because it's time to focus on the next couple of weeks in the run-up to
first Test. He'll be with us all this week, doing two nets a day.”
However, the final decision on the inclusion of Pietersen in the English squad for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka will be taken by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
Pietersen will have to be in top shape before thinking of getting selected for the series, as Andy Flower will most likely not go into the tournament with half-fit players, like he had done in the ICC World Cup 2011.
The right-handed batsman will be available for selection in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851’s game against Cambridge UCCE. The three-day match will be a good opportunity for the English all-rounder to find his form and play competitive cricket after a break.
Pietersen had to leave his side during their World Cup campaign after his hernia aggravated and the pain became unbearable for him, which left the all-rounder with no other option but to get a surgery as soon as possible. His departure just before the quarter-final
hampered England, as they lost against co-hosts Sri Lanka, in a one-sided affair.
Reports suggest that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013’s coach, Andy Flower, was not amused by Pietersen’s decision to go back home, as he felt that the player should have tried to bear the pain, which might have helped his side go beyond the initial knock-out stage.
England is set to begin their series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 by playing the first Test on May 26, at Cardiff. If Pietersen manages to prove his fitness in the eyes of the ECB, he is likely to feature in the five-day match.
