Kevin Pietersen auction raises funds for flood-hit Queensland
England and Australia may be bitter rivals on a cricket field, but England batsman Kevin Pietersen has shown that there is no rivalry among nations in front of a natural disaster.
Australia has suffered the worst floods in over a decade recently and now that the rains and floods have ended, it is time for the rehabilitation process to kick-off.
The cricket players of both teams are not staying behind in the rebuilding process. After the first One Day International between the two teams at the Melbourne Cricket Ground recently, Australian opening batsman Shane Watson decided to help in the rehabilitation
process of his native Queensland. The hard-hitting batsman visited his native place and helped people in every way possible. He also spent time with the kids of the flood-hit area and played cricket with them.
After http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326, it was time for England’s Kevin Pietersen to jump in and do what he could to help the flood hit victims. Some of his friends and followers on Twitter suggested an online auction by the player of his valuables to romp in some funds for the flood-hit
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834.
After listening to the suggestions, the all-rounder put a bat and a shirt that he used in the recently concluded 2010-11 Ashes for auction on eBay.
According to reports, the auction closed with the winner pledging US $ 50,694.92 for the items.
When Pietersen was contacted to give his views regarding the devastation that he had seen while visiting the flood hit area, he said, “It's horrendous what's happening up there and I wanted to try and help in any small way I could possibly do it.”
Pietersen further revealed that he would be paying for the flying expenses of the winner and an accompanying friend to come and watch the final match between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and England in Perth on 6 February, 2011. He also said that the winner would stay in a
five-star hotel and have a chance to attend England team’s practice session a day before the match.
Pietersen’s desire to help the needy has shown his softer side to the world because there was always a perception that he was an egoistic and an arrogant person. However, with this charity, he has certainly proved many wrong and shown that he does care and
has a humane heart.
