him.
Pietersen announced his retirement from the shorter versions of the sport last month, citing his body's inability to go through the tough schedule of international sport throughout the year.
Many former cricketers and analysts have criticized the batsman’s decision as he is only 31, and could have carried on for some years to come.
The West Indian mentor, who has worked with the English team in past as a bowling coach, feels that Pietersen is a bold player who makes his own decisions.
However, Gibson thinks that it is quite unfortunate for the game that some of the high-profile cricketers have started to quit young. There is a school of thought that believes franchise cricket is turning out to be a huge distraction
for the players, and many have started to prefer money over the prestige of international sport.
Gibson expressed, "Nothing KP does takes me by surprise. He is his own man and does what he wants to do whenever he wants to do it. That is his character. I am sort of surprised he is in such good form and chose to walk away from
a format he likes. It is disappointing to see a great player walking away from the game at a young age."
In recent times, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IR-Bell-c1597 in the 50-overs squad and he is expected to play the same role for his country now.
Gibson however, thinks that Pietersen is altogether in a different class, although the West Indian coach has a lot of respect for Bell as a batsman.
The former cricketer said, “It's a big thing to lose your best player. Bell is very different and he is also a very capable replacement. We know we still have to work to get him out.”
