Kevin Pietersen out of England ODI series against Bangladesh
Kevin Pietersen and Graeme Swann will not play for England in their forthcoming ODI series against Bangladesh.
Swann, who has shouldered his side’s spinning duties, with the able assistance of Michael Yardy of late, though a packed schedule of Test, ODI and Twenty20 cricket in recent times has been given a well-earned rest from the three ODI series. He will be replaced in the side by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802 off-spinner James Tredwell.
"Graeme Swann has been involved in all forms of the game for some time now and this forthcoming period has been identified as the best opportunity to ensure Graeme has a suitable break ahead of a demanding schedule this summer and during the winter,” National selector Geoff Miller said.
Pietersen’s omission, however, has a more worrying edge to it after the key batsman suffered a left quadriceps strain during the fifth and final ODI of the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 yesterday.
The South African born player is expected to undergo further tests this week, but though he has been ruled out of the matches against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747, Miller is confident that it “looks like he'll [Pietersen will] be able to make a full recovery very quickly.”
Pietersen’s absence from the squad has opened the door for Jonathan Trott to play some 50-over cricket for his team, something which selectors haven’t given the batsman a chance to do since the conclusion of England’s ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 last November.
The full England squad is: Andrew Strauss (captain) (Middlesex); James Anderson (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852); and Michael Yardy (Sussex).
