Kevin Pietersen overlooked by Hampshire
A month after announcing he’ll part ways with Hampshire at the end of the season, Kevin Pietersen has been overlooked for a place in the county side in their Clydesdale Bank 40 match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802 this Sunday.
The England batsman has been omitted from the side following consultation with England team director Andy Flower, with Hampshire choosing to play emerging batting talents who have committed their futures to the club ahead of KP.
“We have some excellent England aspirants here at Hampshire, including batsmen Michael Carberry, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 Club Chairman, Rod Bransgrove said.
“Whilst at different stages of their development, each of them have provided recent evidence of their ability to progress to represent England. It is our wish and responsibility to give them every possible opportunity to fulfil that potential.”
Pietersen last played for Hampshire against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rose-c86842 Bowl in June, announcing soon after that he would be moving on from the club he’s been contracted to for six years at the end of the current season.
Reports at the time suggested the London-based player decided to end his association with Hampshire for geographical reasons, the 90-minute trip down the road to play for The Royals apparently proving too much for the South African-born player.
As KP searches for form ahead of England’s summer Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 – it appears that decision has now come back to haunt him.
The 30-year-old will now head to Trent Bridge for the first Test of the series, which begins on July 29th, without a county hit-out under his belt while teammates such as Paul Collingwood and Graeme Swann have this week been given the opportunity to warm-up for the Tests playing for their domestic clubs in the County Championship.
