Kevin Pietersen retirement not a big loss claims Nick Knight – Cricket News Update
Former England batsman and current sky sports commentator, Nick Knight, has added his say to the retirement saga involving http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 by claiming the national team are better off without their premier batsman.
Pietersen recently hung his boots from the shorter formats of the game, citing hectic scheduling as the prime reason. His decision has been greeted with mixed reception, with many criticizing the player for turning his back on the national team at a time
when they are heading to arguably their toughest year since becoming Test no.1 ranked side in the world in 2011.
While KP will be available for the longer versions, his stance will see him miss plenty of limited-overs action in the coming 12 months, notably being the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 Cup in September where Poms are the defending champions.
While the cricketing fraternity is still coming to terms with KP’s retirement, Knight was keen to move on from the whole saga and believes that his former employers will be better off without the 31-year-old as he has had less of an impact in the past couple
of year.
Knight has been embroiled in a constant war of words with Pietersen, who allegedly criticised the former left-hander recently, via twitter, by questioning his credentials as a sky sports commentator.
KP’s remarks did not go down well with the English Cricket Board, which then penalized the player and fined him an undisclosed sum, while ordering him to restrain from such comments in the future.
The saga however, rumbles on after Knight officially commented on KP’s retirement plans, claiming that England could benefit from KP’s decision in the longer run.
“http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749’s 50-over side will be slightly better for having Kevin Pietersen out because it has not been his bag,” said Knight. “The recent two to three years have shown his returns have been well below the expectations for him,” Knight said.
“It’s a brave thing to say because the talent is there but I have looked at the statistics and they do not add up. I believe England are in a better position going forward because they will have 11 players who are right behind one-day cricket.”
